The North Country Chili Cook-Off was born at Trinity Church 20 years ago, when the Volunteer Transportation Center (VTC) was located in the old parish house, and Trinity’s team, the “Holy Habaneros,” has participated every year since. Those present at last Sunday’s brunch after the service had a chance to taste our delicious entry. Chef Don Terpstra’s concoction was presented among 22 others in the amateur category Feb. 2 at the Dulles State Office Building, after a three-day blizzard hit the north country. Col. Todd Bajakian helped “man” our booth.

The estimated $35,000 raised by the event goes to the VTC to help get veterans to medical services. The American Legion Auxiliary has been event co-sponsor from its start. Ben and Peggy Coe served on the joint organizing committee, and Ben sang the national anthem at the opening ceremony!
